Kaptagat Forest Marathon

The Kaptagat Forest Half Marathon blends sporting thrill in running around and about the imposing forestland with the noble conservation course. The run is a conservation advocacy and awareness creation on the degree of deforestation of Kaptagat Forest.
  • Creates awareness on the value of Kaptagat Forest and its biodiversity to community, and their duty to protect the forest and it wildlife.
  • Rallies local communities living at the edge of the Kaptagat Forest around the Marathon watershed project
  • Restoring Kaptagat Hills and farmland watershed natural environment
 

Kaptagat Forest Marthon Race

The Premiere edition took place on 9 September, 2018 as early as 7:00am with rush hour registration of athletes at Kipchawat and Strawburg after three months of intense preparation by the sponsor Elagerini Camp (now EllegiriniGreenpark). Kaptagat Forest Marathon is organized by EllegiriniGreenpark in collaboration with Athletic Kenya, UasinGishu County. The newly established Ellegirini Sports Club is a base for nurturing running talents.

The race attracted 273 professional athletes. Athlete Mathew Simatei, a physically challenged athlete, finished amongst the top 100 in the 21km elite men road race

The 2 nd edition Kaptagat Forest Marathon Second Edition took place on Sunday, 8 September 20. The Governor ofUasin H E Jackson Mandago is expected to flag off the race at 8.00am at Naiberi-Sergoit junction on Illula/Kaptagat Road. Strabag Trading Centre on Kaptagat C54 Road is the finish point.
