2018 Marathon Winners Feted
Top runners were rewarded a week later following their victory in the race named ‘Sports for Conservation.’ The lead winners for both men and women took home KES 100,000 each. The runners in both categories received KES 50,000 and KES 30,000 respectively. Tristar Airline gifted the winners with two tickets flight to Lodwar or Mombasa – a destination of their choice.
The runners said the race put them in good state to compete at the top notch road races in the world. Rono heading for the Canadian Capital race to defend his title on 21st October 2018 while Jerop was set for the standard Chartered marathon in November in Nairobi, Kenya. The Race Director Patrick Birgen said the race was very competitive and had attracted top runners across the country. “This is set to be an annual event,” he said. “We have good plans for this race and we are hoping to grow it to international standards. The outcome was pleasing and we want to maintain the tempo,” he was quoted by the media.
