Seeds For Tree Nurseries
- Start/identify twenty-seven (27) model tree nurseries in 27 areas adjacent to Kaptagat Forest (listed below).
- Grow 5.4 m trees in Kaptagat Forest and farm woodlots within 5km of the periphery of the Forest.

- KFF plans to produce 2.7m seedlings. The goal is 10,000 seedlings per year at the cost of KES 540,000. To achieve this objective, KFF shall involve the local communities through its 27 Household Nursery Initiative. Note- average household size in Elgeyo Marakwet County is 4.5, while in Uasin Gishu County is 3.8.
- The nurseries shall develop Syzygium, podocarpus, cider, bamboo, exotic trees; also avocado and other fruits. The nurseries shall provide seedlings for the rehabilitation and restoration of 500 hectares of Kaptagat Forest and on-farm forests.
Attaining Self-Sufficiency
KFF projects aim at cultivation self-sufficiency within the local farming communities’ culture. Besides ,KFF focuses on easing pressure on forest resources by the local communities. The Foundation supports farmers in the production and sells seedlings for sale via gate marketing launched in 2019. One of our model community farmers made $1,000 from the sales of his first harvest in 2020.KFF provided him with seeds and tubes. His household provided the labour for his small nursery. He returned ½ kg bag of seedlings for donation to farmers who needed them.
In 2021, KFF shall identify, map and post all the existing nurseries within the 27 projects areas (above) around forests. The Foundation shall also make an inventory of tree species available in the 27 nurseries for visibility. The process shall assist KFF in marketing the product on the broader market.
