Kemboi and Chepkemboi are Kaptagat Half marathon champions

Newcomer Daniel Kemboi and Joyce Chepkemboi were the winners of the second edition of Kaptagat half marathon meant to conserve Kaptagat Forest, a place well known as the best training ground for athletes.

In men’s category, Kemboi won the race 63:08 followed by Albert Kangogo (63:12) and Micah Chesire in 63:45.

“I came here to try my luck and came through. I had to prove to my people that I was strong to run well,” said Kemboi who was running on home ground.

“It was good winning at home after missing last year edition,” added Kemboi.

In women, Chepkemboi picked from where she had left in third position to win the title beating a host of other elite and inexperienced runners for the title.

She won in 74:10 ahead of Judith korir (74:34) and Agnes kemboi (75:25) for podium positions.

“The race was too competitive especially in hilly course but I returned, chasing best time in the race,” said Chepkemboi.

“I like running in front to give me power to control the race. Once I lead, any competitor will be able to struggle to beat me and that is what I did for the win,” added Chepkemboi.
