Kemboi and Chepkemboi are Kaptagat Half marathon champions

Newcomer Daniel Kemboi and Joyce Chepkemboi were the winners of the second edition of Kaptagat half marathon meant to conserve Kaptagat Forest, a place well known as the best training ground for athletes.

In men’s category, Kemboi won the race 63:08 followed by Albert Kangogo (63:12) and Micah Chesire in 63:45.

“I came here to try my luck and came through. I had to prove to my people that I was strong to run well,” said Kemboi who was running on home ground.

“It was good winning at home after missing last year edition,” added Kemboi.

In women, Chepkemboi picked from where she had left in third position to win the title beating a host of other elite and inexperienced runners for the title.

She won in 74:10 ahead of Judith korir (74:34) and Agnes kemboi (75:25) for podium positions.

“The race was too competitive especially in hilly course but I returned, chasing best time in the race,” said Chepkemboi.

 â€śI like running in front to give me power to control the race. Once I lead, any competitor will be able to struggle to beat me and that is what I did for the win,” added Chepkemboi.

The race is here

The long waited second edition of Kaptagat Half marathon is set for tomorrow in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County.

The race includes elite 21km, 5km corporate and 5km students races with the race set to conserve Kaptagat forest, a training area of many athletes in the North Rift region.

With the race dubbed Sports For Conservation, each athlete will be required to plat a fruit tree around Kaptagat Forest

We expect a big number

Kaptagat half marathon organizers have predicted a large turn-out when the race gets underway this Sunday in kaptagat, Uasin Gishu county.

Run For a Purpose as the race is called will see athletes surpass last year’s event where 250 athletes competed in vatious categories.

Race director Patrick Birgen said the number, according to the registration will definitely go up depending on the marketing they have done this year.

“We are expecting over a thousand runners in all categories. During our inauguration, we had a big number and we expect the same on Sunday,” said Birgen as he puts on final touches on the organization.

We are set for the marathon

Kaptagat half marathon organisers have set the stage for the second edition of race for this Sunday in Kaptagat area Uasin Gishu county.

Today, officials led by race director Patrick Birgen assured athletes and the public that they are ready for the race on Sunday as they run to conserve Kaptagat forest.

“Now we are ready for the event. We have to assure athletes that the race is on and prize money readily available,” said Birgen.

The race is also sponsored by Eldoret Water and Sanitation company to atune of kshs 500,000.

Taiwan international to compete at Kaptagat half marathon

Eroll Chen, the Taiwan international will be one of the international athletes who will be competing for the Kaptagat Half marathon title set for this Sunday in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu county.

Dubbed Sports For Conservation, Chen will be lining up against elite and untested athletes for the coveted race in the region to conserve Kaptagat Forest that is under threat of distinction.

“I want to try my best and finish in top ten. I have been training in Kenya and I have gained much needed experience, ready for the challenge,” said Chen.

The runner, who last week competed at the national championships will be using the race as part of his training for Chicago marathon set for October 13th.

“The race will be good for me and instead of going for morning run, I will be running as part of my training. I want to gain good time to help me run well in Chicago next month,” added Chen.

The athlete also competed at the 2014 Kass marathon as well as 2015 national cross country championships at Uhuru Park.

Kaptagat half marathon registration open

Athletes who will be competing in the second edition of Kaptagat Half marathon can now register through mpesa Pay bill.

The Local Organising Committee released the pay Bill number to avoid last minute rush to register for the race set for this Sunday in kaptagat, Uasin Gishu county.

For the elite 21km race, the runners will register with kshs 5,000 while Corporate runners with register with kshs 1,000 while 5km Fun Run will cost kshs 100.

Kaptagat Half marathon winners to pocket 100k

As second edition of Kaptagat half marathon enters homestretch, the Local Organising Committee has announced the prizes for top three positions.

The race, set for this Sunday in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County, winners will pocket kshs 100,000.

This is the same prize like last year championships. First runner-up will earn Kshs. 75,000 and third finisher to pocket kshs 50,000 for both men and women in elite race.

Apart from 21km, there will 5km fun race and 5km corporate race who will also win various prizes.

Kaptagat Half marathon route marked

Athletes who will be competing at this year’s Kaptagat Half marathon can now test the course after it was marked today.

The race, which enters its second edition, will be held next Sunday 8th 2019.

Officials from Athletics Kenya accompanied by the Local Organising Committee marked the route that will start at Tuyigwet Dispensary and will end at Strobag Centre along Eldoret-Kaptagat Road.

Three time world half marathon champion Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor is the race ambassador. Last year, two time Toronto marathon champion Philemon Rono won the men’s title while former world cross country junior bronze medalist Cynthia Jerop carried the ladies title.

Kaptagat half marathon on course

Second edition of Kaptagat half marathon gets off next Sunday in Uasin Gishu County.

Local organising Committee (LOC) today was putting final touches to ensure a successful event with one week left for the race.

Last year winners led by two time Toronto marathon winner and former world cross country junior bronze medalist Cynthi Jerop are expected to run in the race set for Sunday 8th.
